Dear Reader,
My name is Lyala, and I’m the heart behind the ‘Ocean’ Bulletin, and the Decolonise Your Life guides which will be launching soon, beginning with the first guide - ‘Decolonise Your Kitchen’.
I was born in England, with Jamaican heritage and African roots — I am shaped by three worlds and therefore three rhythms.
I created this space to offer a way to return, for those who seek a return to ancestral ways lost through the middle passage and colonialism.
In the process of creating this body of work, a living archive has emerged — one woven from spirit, story, ancestral recipes and the quiet flame of remembrance. I’m honoured to share some of that warmth with you here.
You’re welcome to take what you need from my work, sit where you feel called and move at your own rhythm and pace. There is no pressure here. No expectation. Just ocean vibes. Ancestral memory. And return to what was lost.
Welcome to Ocean.
The tide is rising.
With love,
Lyala
__________
Ocean
There are stories that live beneath the surface of our lives, still and as quiet as water. They do not rise until they are stirred. The ‘Decolonise Your Life’ space is one of constant stirring. And we’ve stirred up this Bulletin called ‘Ocean’.
Yes, Ocean is a Bulletin, but not just for updates. It is a tide. It is a rhythm. It is a spiritual current carrying memory, reflection, ritual and ancestral presence into your inbox each month.
The name Ocean was chosen to honour all those who endured the Middle Passage, those that made it to land and those who did not… and so we honour the grief that still lingers in the depths of those waters, that witnessed and holds the pain of the ancestors.
This space will share:
Reflections, rituals, recipes from people decolonising their lives (Decolonisers)
Excerpts from the Decolonise Your Life series of online guides
Stories from the Living Archive
A taste of ancestral food and wellness practices
Letters from decolonisers walking their own journey of remembrance and repair
Whether you’ve joined as a reader, a supporter, or someone simply curious about what it means to decolonise your life - you are welcome here.
Everything offered in the bulletin is held in ceremony. Every post is slow-made, with intention and care.
You will not find rigid schedules or fixed expectations here. This is not a timed broadcast — it is a spiritual rhythm. Posts may come with the tide, with the moon, or when the ancestors whisper. They arrive when they are ready, and when you are - one bulletin a month.
As the months unfold there will be more to offer you here but in the meantime, thank you for reading this brief introduction to ‘Decolonise Your Life’.
This space is free and open to everyone. You are not required to pay or subscribe at any tier. All are invited to receive, read and remember in their own time. If you feel moved to offer a donation, that form of ‘sacred exchange’ would be very welcome, no amount is too small.
With love and gratitude,
